How to Make Easy 20-Minute Korean Braised Tofu

Creating this delightful dish is straightforward. Follow these easy steps to ensure you achieve the perfect balance of flavors:

  1. Drain the tofu: Start by removing the tofu from its packaging. Cut the block into slices, roughly 2.5 inches long and 1/3 inch thick.
  2. Prepare the tofu: On a paper towel-lined plate, lay the tofu slices in a single layer. Sprinkle them with salt and allow them to rest for about 10 minutes. This process helps draw out extra moisture, which is key to achieving a crispy texture.
  3. Mix the sauce: As the tofu rests, combine all the sauce ingredients in a bowl to create a harmonious blend.
  4. Fry the tofu: In a heated large pan over medium heat, add the vegetable oil and pan fry the tofu until it’s golden brown on both sides, which should take about 2-4 minutes per side.
  5. Add the sauce: Pour the sauce over the tofu in the pan. Allow it to cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, letting the sauce reduce and thicken.
  6. Serve: Once done, garnish the dish with finely chopped green onions and enjoy it with a side of steamed rice!
